"These are real artists--they're not just messing around!" That well-meaning half-truth was overheard in the Vurb office/gallery just as we were contemplating how to put Ripper Jordan into words. The enthusiast was showing her companion our walls adorned with Ripper Jordan goods for sale, such as irreverent buttons and mischievous ink drawings. By day, the Ripper boys (a.k.a. David Ryan, Sean Slattery, and James Hough) are indeed real serious artists. By night, though, they open cheap beer, blow off steam and create stuff that's so stream of consciousness--so sharp and rough at the same time--that they insist we not call it art. In short, they are messing around. Anyway, we do love that spirit, and for a couple of nights' worth of Natural Light and the posting of the Ripper Jordan phone number (702-339-4257), we signed up their night side to illustrate our cover subject, which as you may figure out, is connected to their day sides.
